Does anybody have an idea how I can put a password on my router to stop other houses using my internet? Its a Netgear router but there doesn't seem to be any information about security

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You need to access your router admin page whilst connected to the router by ethernet cable - otherwise you will lock yourself out!
Try typing the following in to the address bar:
192.168.1.1
Now you should see the admin page. Take your time to look at all the pages, and try to implement at least points 1 - 4 here:

When all is done, you can disconnect the ethernet cable.
