slow running computer

Lately, my computer takes ages to load an internet page up, sometimes 90 seconds or so. All I can hear is a lot of "churning" on the hard drive, with its' light illuminated. I have performed a disk cleanup, and a defrag, but that made no difference. My C drive is showing 36% free space, and the D drive 99% free, does anyone know whay the computer is so slow in performing tasks. Have run anti-virus/spyware, but it comes back clean. I am running CA anti virus software. Thanks for any help given.

Have you tried Ashampoo internet accelerator.?
Its free from www.Ashampoo.com
This may help speed up your connection.
Also you may need more memory. A simple upgrade could help.
