windows live messnger

i have a pc with windows xp and it's only a year old but windows live messenger just will not work on it - it allows me to sign in etc but i don't receive messages from people and vice versa. it also signs me out and back in every 5 minutes or so. this has only recently started happening as it used to work fine! i've recently started using wireless internet - could that have anything to do with it? but none of the other people in my house have the same trouble. is very annoying and any solutions or help would be much appreciated! thanks.
