It will probably do other things as well (such as playing MP3 audio files or displaying jpeg pictures) but you'd have to check the specifications for a particular make and model to find out exactly what it's capable of.
Unlike 'MP4 player' (which is a generic term referring to products from many manufacturers), 'iPocket' is the name of a specific model from a particular manufacturer (Inovix). It plays video files but uses the AMV format, rather than MP4. It also plays MP3 audio, displays jpeg images and incorporates a built-in voice recorder.

Thanks for the reply. Without knowing the make or model of the MP4 player which you're considering, it's impossible to search for any reviews. (Just enter 'review make model ' into Google and you'll probably find something relevant).
However, with MP4 players being far more common than AMV players (which is what the iPocket is), it's likely that there will be far more MP4 files available for download than AMV ones. I suspect that, if you get an iPocket, you'll have to spend loads of time converting downloaded MP4 files to the AMV format. It would seem to be far simpler to buy a product which plays MP4 files without having to convert them.
