Mine is a waste of space so I need a new one. Please can you tell me if it is just a matter of plugging in a new machine or will I have to do complicated tuning in and stuff?
Thanks

Hi Scarlett,
Yes to record off air tv programmes you will need to tune it in.
Check here with your postcode to see if you can receive Freeview in your area.

If you can, try to buy one with a digital Freeview tuner, not just an analogue one as the Govt. are going to switch off all analogue transmitters in 2012.
Freeview is really good as you can get about 30 free tv channels instead of just 5.

pug- sorry, I should have mentioned that I have Sky TV. Does this alter anything?
No not really you will need to connect the sky box to the dvd recorder using a Scart cable. Your current setup should already have one of these, if not they are quite cheap to buy 4 - 5.

Yes I am fairly sure it is already plugged into the current DVD recorder... I was just hoping that all I had to do was swap the leads over.. !
I got a new DVD Recorder last week and all I did was plug the cables into the new one in the same places as the old one. Worked no bother.

The main tuning is done by your Sky box. If you just plug the existing scart lead into your new recorder then your "on screen display" should give you the option of choosing scart input and away you go.

By the way I strongly suggest you buy a DVD+RW type and not a -RW type. You won't have to keep formatting the discs this way and they are easier to operate.
