Home Page Hijacking - Mersting
6 Answers
I've used a few different anti-spyware programs that actually detect something called win32.mersting, yet despite clean after clean, it CONTINUES TO HIJACK MY HOMEPAGE, continually changing it to "about:blank". I've followed others instructions, updated to the latest vet, sweep and clean every day with it and other anti-spyware programs - NOTHING. Keeps popping back up with bout:blank" every time I open internet explorer. It's driving me absolutely insane!!!!!
How do I get rid of it???????????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! I'm half a step away from buying a new pc.

Try this:

It won't get rid of win32.mersting (or whatever the file is)but it will stop your internet start page from ever getting hi-jacked again. Oh - and it's free.

If you haven't already done so, you should try cwshredder which gets rid of a lot of the nasties that things like Adaware and spybot can't. You can also try hijackthis, but you need to know what you're doing with its results.
CWshredder is here:

What has happened is that the home page has been set so explorer opens with a blank page....what you need to do is open Internet explorer then click on tools then click on internet options the you will see a box in which you can enter a home page which will be shown when you open internet explorer for example if you enter www.answerbank.co.uk then thats what you will get when you open internet explorer.....hope that helps.:-)
