It can be but it all depends what format your videos are in and what software you use to convert and burn them.
I just play them on my vcr linked to TV and DVD Recorder.
The only drawback is that I have to watch the video.
You don't have to watch the video - as long as the dvd recorder is set to the correct video channel (EXT or AV usually) you can change the tv to any channel you like, or go out - or do it overnight.
I do the same as Ethel.

My video recorder is connected up via a Scart lead to my DVD recorder.

I press "play" on the video and "record" on the DVD recorder and just leave it running.

I have converted many videos to DVD this way.
Surely the vcr to dvd doesn't work if the DVD is protected though?

to a dvd recorder ... back to back will work fine

VCRs all record PAL format (in britain anyhow)
and why would you write protect an empty disc???????
