I am 17 years of age and 18 in April,i was wondering that if i tried to take a mobile phone contract out now ,what would happen? My mate tried this and he have failed credit checks ?is this because he is underage? He tried o2 and they wanted 100 quid upfront?
I do credit checks for the company I work for and know credit checks are based on the info you give so if you lie about your age the credit check will be done against a person that doesn't technically exist this means there is no credit history so companies tend to demand money upfront so that they are less likely to lose out to fraudsters. However be careful as if you are caught they can terminate your contract and charge you also it would then go against your credit history which would stuff you in the future.
I was also wondering that lets say if i tried all the mobile phone companies and they all failed me because i lied about my age, will this go against me and give me a bad credit rating even though it had failed?or havent i got a credit rating because i am 17.
it can still go on your history as banks use credit ratings and you can have accounts quite young. Just be aware that if you get continually rejected it will go against you when you try to get credit in the future. So if you ever need a loan or a credit card you would only be able to get ones with really crappy rates because of your history. Oh and also lying to creditors is also considered fraud. Just wait til tour 18 besides you can get good deals on PAYG. Virgin do offers and when you top up loads they send you money off vouchers for new PAYG phones my mate has had to vouchers now one for 120 and one for 60 so she got her new phones for pennies!!!!
