(I have mcst) as well as CCNA CCNP etc
A+ is a lifetime qual (but it's only the equivalent of an O level)
MCSE only lasts for the life of the OS it covers
so with the XP/vista - 2003/2008 changeover ... now isn't the best of times
(CCNA & CCNP only last for a year)
Check with your local tec ... or even university to see if they run subsidised courses.
MCSE costs 5k because the majority of ppl whio take it on are sponsored by an employer
be certain that the job you are after requires the qual - and see if you can get a job without and then upskill
Even buy a book to see if it suits you
VHG is wrong ...
you'll get a job at PC world if you can prove you can get by ....or you'll get a low paid "labourers" job with geek squad etc
... but to work in the dungeons on real ITC kit - you need MCSE and/or a degree.
if you want to be a software engineer ... MCSE is useless - go to tec.
you need to be certain where you want to go with this ... VH is right about the 30k+ jobs
you need the mcse to get the interview ... but you need experience to pass it

thank you for your imput guys now i'm even more confused on what to do as it is a new world for me, i've got a guy who is saying he can promise me work after the 5th module of 8 25/35k pa he says he is not a salesman ?! the training provider is ADVENT he says they are microsoft certified but what does that mean after the course has finished what if they dont come through with the job they promise
I've had a (very) quick look ... (and e-mail) round to see if anyone has any feedback. the conclusion seems to be that they are no worse or better than any other distance learning firm. now as you are a newbie ... this could be a problem ... distance learning ... it's a bit like the OU ... some people love it some hate it ... some score despite it
So it's inconclusive. At 5k however I'd want a little more than a salesman's sayso ....
I'm afraid it's time to get off your ar*e and do some digging .... visit your local tec/uni ... se what they can offer .... see what the local job centre can tell you.
get the salesman (however nice he is ... he's still a salesman) to name names ... ring the companies and ask them
I've been in the game for years ... and it's getting harder and more competetive by the day .... you can get a green student for 17k start .... and I doubt that If I were starting today I'd consider employing me.
the kit is getting simpler for the small and medium .... the serious stuff is just as complex as ever ... but many firms contract out. It's not all bad ... but it's how everything is going
