A piece of advice - don't get involved in "black hat" hacking.

These days there a lot of criminal involvement in it - it's not a "bit of fun" and when you're caught you will be sent to prison.

However I work for a large computer security company and there is a huge demand for security consultants. Those are jobs that range from working with analysing viruses, vulnerabilities in code through to security testing.

These jobs may not be as glamorous as your vision of a hacker seems to be but they can be well paid and you don't go to gaol.

Generally being able to program is pretty much required but a good knowlege of networking technology will do in some areas.

Becoming a Hacker has no defined formular but rather the willingness of one aspiring to become a serious hacker, it takes dedication and willingness to learn. It is therefore essential for anyone willing to become a Hacker to have a basic knowledge of the topics such as operating system basics and its working, computer networks, network security and programming.
