Scooter died this morning mid journey

My scooter started fine this morning but halfway to work it just died and stopped. I can restart the engine and it revs ok but as soon as I pull away it just dies again. May be a coincidence but I might of heard something fall off about a minute before it broke down. Its two stroke twist and go 100cc scooter. Checked petrol and oil levels and they're fine. Battery seems ok too as lights etc work.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Was it very wet or damp, that's the usual problem in winter.

Not sure how scooters work (i have motorcycle) but are you able to put it out of gear and and easily push it. sounds like something may have seized, if the engine runs ok untill you try and move?

Do you have drive ? if not it could be the belt.

Can you elaborate on the 'falling off' noise pls.

It might be worth checking that no loose wires are touching anything as you pull off (Check under the seat + whereever the battery is) if a short circuit is caused that would cut the engine

True enough, but as it is a 100cc ( either peugeot or a barras/adley/jing jong wingnpong etc etc ) they only have one main fuse which would blow and require changing before engine would start.

Anyways....Matt_london , what''s the latest ?

Just got it back from mechanics and they couldn't find any specific fault with it but they changed the spark plug and cleaned the carb and took it for a 7 mile run and it didn't breakdown then. However I am yet to test it myself still!
