Hi. A problem has developed with my PC. I can surf fine, but if I have to log in to a secure area to order goods etc I get a message that there is a problem. I have tried my laptop using the the same cable into the telephone point, which works fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

give us a clue
what O/s/browser/error message exactly?

Hi. Sorry, should have been more specific. The message is:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
 The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

I am definitely online, but it is only when I want to go into a secure area to place an order for something that this message pops up. Have tried all the cables on the laptop and they are working fine. Any help gratefully received.
ok

the first thing to check are your settings
go to
tools | internet options | advanced
(easies here is just to reset to defaults)

then still on the on the internet options panel go to security and - unless you have a particular reason for using other settings ... go for medium high (the default) on the internet options)

see what happens

also .... if you haven't already - consider upgrading to ie7

if that fails

try downloading firefox from http://portableapps.com/news/2007-12-05_-_fire fox_portable_2.0.0.11

it's fully self contained .... so you don't have to risk your existing settings - and will prove a point (if all else fails).

Thanks ACtheTroll! Firefox is working fine. Assuming it is a software rather than hardware problem. Thanks again!
