foreign internet connections

This is my third attempt at finding an asnwer to thi squestion, I can only assume by the lack of response that no one knows the answer....which is kind of ironic in this supposed times of superior hi-tech telecommunications. Its a load of waffle, reserved only for the super rich and corporate clients who don't have to foot the bill. Normal people just get sucked into a vaccum of false promisies and nonesense. But just in case: I have been trying to find a simple way of connecting to the internet using my mobile phone whilst in Europe. I have so far been presented with several different accounts ranging from you can but it will over 7 per mb to it will cost 1pence per page using gprs? If its the former, who on earth can afford to do that?

I travel a lot, and I use internet cafes to access my email & search the web. Thats cheap, I don't have to carry anything and I don't risk getting my laptop stolen. Anyone wants me urgently they can phone me.
I suppose if I wanted to take my laptop I'd use wi-fi. All the hotels I stayed at in the US were enabled, so was the one I stayed at in France last week. But I haven't researched how much getting an international connection account costs.
Best of luck.
Hi, not cross, just frustrated. You also raised an interesting point about wi-fi...I was told that wi-fi connection will only work if you have an account in the coutnry you are visiting? in your case France. As I too am travelling to France, to an apartment with no landline, my option was to a: use an internet cafe..over 2 or 3 weeks expensive.
b: Use my mobile phone to connect to the web via my lap top, outragiously expensive and complicated
or c: use wi-fi to connect my laptop. must have a French isp account?
Hence my frustration.
Thanks for that link, but this is exactly part of the problem: "All prices quoted are for usage in the UK only and include VAT, which will be charged where applicable, unless otherwise stated. Usage outside of the UK is not included within your data bundle."
France is not covered and there's no mention of how much it would cost in Italy say, which they do cover....
