burning to cd

for years now i have been buying music on the internet and had no problem burning to cd ,now all of a sudden i can't ,even copying a cd it just keeps kicking the empty cd out .i can't even save any of my files to cd anymore . any ideas anyone only this is driving me mad .ive thought of wiping the whole lot off but i dont want to lose all my stuff .i have also done system restore no joy there .i have windows xp and use media play or realplay would be very glad of some help please

CD drives are mechanical devices and wear out. Perhaps it's time to invest 20 quid in a new multi-writer.
