Videoing from Freeview

I have a freeview digital box. I have it tuned in to channel 6 on my tv, but when I select channel 6 on my video and try to record I get nothing. If I have the video and the freeview box on at the same time I cannot get the video menu to display on the screen - the freeview seems to overide it. Any ideas as to what I should do so I can record from the digibox. I know that I can't record from one source whilst watching another but surely I could time something in to record whilst I am out. Eg the recent Tour de France programmes on ITV2. My local branch of Curry's just give me that "another pathetic woman trying to copy with technology" look!

It sound like the video needs to be tuned to the digibox, and it may be that the various leeds are not connected in the right order. To be honest, it's hard to give an answer without seeing the set up, so you really need a friend who is good with technology to have a look and make sure everything is set up correctly. Some pointers, though. If using rf leads, make sure the connections from the digibox go to the video first. If using scarts there should be two slots available, one for tv one for video. It could be the digibox needs adjusting so that it is not on the same channel as the video. As I said, there are quite a few things to consider. Good luck!
OK step by step.......co-ax fly lead from wall into back of digibox...scart lead out to telly and co-ax lead to back of video....turn digibox onto either 6=ITV2 or 7=BBC3 and then turn telly onto your video channel and tune the video into the digibox looking for the new programme.

I hope that was clear....if not repost and I'll try and clarify further.

What I did is tune one of the video channels into the freeview. My freeview operates on UHF Channel 22. You will need leave the freeview turned on to the channel you want to record from.. and leave the vcr on the channel you've tuned the freeview into. My freeview will work via rf leads (co-ax) even if I disconnect the scart leads.. but not all freeview boxes will work in the anaologue (uhf channel 22) way.
How have you got your cables connected? You must connect the aerial direct to the set top box, then cable to your TV. If you use a remote make sure that is tuned in to the box
