I don't have a multi-region dvd, but there is an American rare DVD I would like to buy. I was wondering if a region 1 DVD it would play on my PC?
Thanks.

Open My Computer and right-click your DVD drive
Choose Properties
Select the Hardware tab
Highlight the DVD drive and click Properties
Select the DVD region tab
It will tell you the current region and may let you select another region.
Note that it will probably tell you that you have only a limited number of opportunities to change the region code.
PCs are normally 'region locked', meaning they'll only play DVDs from one region. You are usually able to choose another region, but you can only do this perhaps 4 times before the facility freezes you out, leaving you locked to the last region you chose. Read more here

Most dvd players can be set to region free by keying in the correct sequence on the remote control.

Then it will play any region of dvd.
