I have a thingy called TIvO - it's he best thing I ever bought .... plenty of hacks ... mine has two 200Gb HDDs - 360 hours recording time (at medium quality) - a network card .... so I can transfer recordings to my PC. And a web "remote" so I could prog recording from anywhere with an internet connection.
but only a single analog tuner.... and a way of emulating a sky remote so that it could change sky channels for recording.
(wife often changed channels half way through a recording)
as a replacement for tape .... it was amazing
no reason to miss anything.
Recently moved house got a new 32" telly and sky+ .....
Tivo (like puff the magic dragon) is getting a little lonely - cause you can only transfer progs in real time .... which is a bit of a pain -
being only fairly sad myself (in this area anyhow) - being able to record 2 channels is good enough
A DVD recorder would be handy ..... but to be honest ... once I've seen a prog ... that's enough ... long term saving isn't one of my vices.

Hi,
It all depends on what you want to do with your recordings. A straight transfer from your Sky+ to DVD with nothing taken out (ad breaks) then get a cheap DVD recorder.
I don't know about Sky+ and wether it can cut out advert breaks from films and TV shows but when I came to buy a DVD recorder this was important to me. I got one with a hard drive for this reason and also to transfer a recording such as a film from HDD to DVD takes just a few minutes with high speed dubbing.
This is what I went for, has a Freeview tuner too 197.77
