AOL browsing updated website pages
4 Answers
Can anyone explain the following? I use AOL 9.0 on windows XP SP2. When our golf club website gets updated I do not always see the updated pages until sometime later. This can be days. However other users using different browsers eg Firefox, see the new pages immediately. Is this a feature peculiar to AOL, Internet Explorer or some other phenomenon? I am also aware of at least one other AOL user who has come across this feature when updating and viewing his own website.
Thanks in advance for any explanation.

These are called Temporary Internet Files.
To save time your browesr looks in this folder first and sees if the file you want is already there, and if so it displays that rather than the master on the web site.
That is why you are seeing the "old" web site rather than the new web site.
What you need to do is clear out your Temporary Internet Files and you will see the new site as it needs to download it again.
There is an option in IE which says ALWAYS go and check the web site first. You can get there by selecting Tools then Internet Options then Browsing History then the Settings button.
Click the option which says "every time I visit the web page".

It is a good idea to clear out your temporary interent files on a regular basis.
After using the internet for a while you can finish up with thousands of temporary internet files, and it can actually take longer for the browser to look through all these files than to download the file again.
In IE7 select Tools then Internet Options then Browsing History then Delete button.
Here you can delete your Temporary Internet Files.
