Smoke alarm
9 Answers
The smoke alarm fitted in our lounge goes off when making toast, even if the toast doesn't burn.
Consequently, the alarm spends a lot of its time inoperative with the battery disconnected. BAD, I know !
I was thinking it might be a good idea for an alarm to be fitted with a timing device which, once a mute button is pressed, turns the alarm off, for say ,20-30 mins before resetting itself .
I have searched for such an alarm but without success.
I'm sure there are many smoke alarms around the country which are disabled in some way due to them going off during normal cooking activities, and have not been reconnected.

I do have another one half way up the stairs though so i didnt worry too much!!!!! Yesterday I had a home safety check from our local fire brigade and when i asked them about it, they said it was in the wrong place and I should have one in the hall and one at the top of the stairs! They fitted me two free of charge! If you get in touch with your local fire service they may well do the same check and fit you some new ones!
