Broadband provider / changing from AOL
5 Answers
I've been with AOL for about 6 years and they're charging me 17.99 a month. Recently it's got really slow and I think I'm paying over the odds for a poor service. Can anyone recommend any other provider ? I've had a look but there are so many out there. I've heard that you can leave AOL and keep your e-mail addresses - does anyone know about this and if it costs ? Thanks x

I'm with you in that I want to change but who to go with? BT is probably as good as any and they're offering free stuff..TalkTalk are offering everything if you stay with them, but the service is so bad I don't think its worth it..

BTs service is average to say the least and we used to get cut off all the time.
We switched to Sky as we were already using their TV service and it costs us an extra 10 a month which is for unlimited downloads and upto 16MB, we get around 10MB at the moment. That is their top package, the other two are 5 a month and free.
If you already have their TV, then definitely consider their broadband, you don't have to switch your line rental like a lot of other providers force you to do - Orange are guilty of this and will also tie you into an 18 month contract.
If you don't have Sky and don't want to switch your line rental, then you might as well go with BT, although the Home Hub thing they foist on you is useless, so if you have another router you can use I'd stick with that.
If switching your line rental doesn't bother you, then Virgin came top in a recent survey and the speed is good especially if you live in one of their cabled areas which is about half the UKs population

My problem is that we live in a non-Freeview area, so the only phone/broadband/tv package I can get in Sky. Then because we live quite a way from the exchange, Sky want to charge me an extra 17 a month to use their broadband The adverts say you can get the lot for 19 a month - they want 42 a month from me. I think not !
