I use the internet at home in the evenings during weekdays, so for example total weekday use is 30 hours, plus an additional 20 hours over weekend, that im online 200+ hours a month. I surf the net and watch videos on youtube, but thats all. Would 512K be sufficient for me?

would 1,000,000 be enough?

it's a start ... but the more the merrier.
you don't say just what you do in those 200 hours .... if you spend any time d/l files ... broadband will reduce your online tim ... or increase your need for more disc space.

I assume you are on dialup at present?

well compared to dialup 512 will be a fair improvement (about 10 times more (theoretically!))

an 8 Mb service would just blow your socks off!!!!

the problem is that the more you can do ... the more you will do ..... and the more you will want to do.

...... just stick to your budget ... and get as much as you can
Hi 'filthestfis' ....are you sure that it is 512Kb download I didn't think anyone offered a speed that low .......or is that that maximum speed you believe your phone line can receive. To answer your question ....I would say no. it's too slow ,certainly If you want to to watch videos.
I think you would probably be ok with 2Mb, this is fine for me, no problems watching videos, downloading etc.
I am with Virgin cable though, I don`t know if this makes a difference.
What are you on now?

2Mb sounds about right for you. 8Mb is better, obviously, but the extra expense may not be worth it.

I am n broadband with virgin at the mo...am looking around for cheap deals, phone line and broadband bundle...found Toucan and they offer 512k but read bad reviews about them so wont be joining them!
I find virgin very cheap, 16.50 for phone line, 2Mb broadband and free weekend calls.
Don`t forget when you`re checking out deals to find out if you need to pay BT on top for phone line, and check if vat is included.
I'd stick with Virgin. I find them to give a great service, and a good price. Their broadband will always be superior to everyone else too, since they use cable and not old phone lines.
