Vacuum cleaner - what's the best kind?
12 Answers
We need to purchase a new vacuum cleaner. Can anyone recommend any? We have laminate floors throughout the house; kitchen and bathroom are tiled.
I had a look at the John Lewis website, and it suggested cylinder type for hard floors. (I prefer Upright). And then I saw they had a Domotec Roomba, which is like a little robot - how cool is that? BUT, do they work?
Or should I just get a brush?! Thanks! Muzz

I have been looking around but didn't know which one to go for, Morrisons had a Samsung SU2911 on offer this week for 50, I took a chance and bought it. It has a knob which you turn for selecting different floors (bare floors, low carpet, raised carpet). It has one of those see through cylinder for collecting the dust (like the Dyson). I vacuumed my hallway and straight away realised what an awful job my previous vacuum had been doing as the amount of dust collected was horrendous. This one is definitely in my good books :) btw this is an upright.

We have had all sorts of vacuum cleaners over the years, including a very expensive American joby which proved to be a total waste of space! I then opted for an inexpensive Electrolux all-surface Vitesse Z4707 1800 watt, and its the best hoover weve ever bought. Its bagless so there is no smell or bags to buy, picks up incredibly well, and was around 50 from Comet.

Dyson DC 24 All Floors is a really good cleaner, a bit expensive but if you shop around there are bargains to be had. It retails at 279.99 from Dyson but I have just checked on Kelkoo and The Appliance Zone are selling it for 199.98 with free postage. Kelkoo is a really good site and I find the reviews very helpful.
please dont buy a dyson. I threw mine onto a skip. I bought a bex bissell vacuum cleaner (upright) absolutely brilliant.
you may guess I had been using carpet fresh on my carpet and not realising when I was using the dyson i thought my carpet was being cleaned.
When I used the bex bissell I could not believe how much carpet cleaner was sucked up. If it breaks I will be buying another one. no dyson (very heavy and hopeless suction)
