Internet connection box keeps appearing when opening programs

It is probably cause the various programs you are running wnat to acess the internet for information or to cheak for updates, e.g. Media player will want to look up CD information or get the guide page to load. There is not much you can do about it that I know of you just have to click cancel or next time you dial up properly uncheak the box that says connect automatically.

Yep check the options box in the program that is trying to connect and uncheck anything that refers to checking for updates or connect on open, or whatever.

Ib has similar problem. when I bootedup comp the internet connection box would comes up, and then I would be asked about every five minutes whther i wouldlike to conect, regardless of what program i was running. After running norton it stopped but now when I clikc to conect nothing happens. i have to go to network conection and connect there then clikc on internet explorer. what is wrong. i have the most up to date norton and update it check and scan weekly!

We have the same probs as Berty2001. We use windows 98 and had this problem before after tweaking everything i could think of, it went away. Its now back and won't go!!! We have to reboot several times before we can get on with our work. PC Only 2 years old.

If you have a norton product which uses Live Update, it will look for an internet connection every 5 minutes to see if it can download updates, this may also be true of other self updating programs. I have had a problem on an old dial up machine that would also attempt to connect every 5 minutes. Best bet is to turn off auto update, but remember to run updates regularly yourself.
