Hi - I want to buy a new PAYG phone but use my old number. Can I buy any phone, regardless of network or make, and just put my old sim card in it and it will work? Or do I have to buy a phone on my old network? Also, which sites are best for dirt cheap offers on phones? Grateful for any info. Tx.

You can port your number across to another network and you will need to ask your new network to arrange this for you. Some mobile handsets will not work with a SIM card that is hard-coded to another network so simply replacing the SIM may not work for you.

Most retailers of mobiles will have a webpage that shows their best offers so check those out but it depends on the network that they connect to.
Further to your question, yes you can just buy a phone on your old network and your sim card will work in it.
Doesnt even need to be on your old network just buy an unlocked phone
dont expect an old sim to work in a 3g phone because they dont.

Thanks everyone - didn't want to buy a phone till I knew the answer - can't take phone in for porting (whatever that is) so good to know I can just stick with same network. I need to be able to buy online and then just stick my old sim card in it when it arrives and have it work. Tx!
