what have I done to my Digis ma??

I have a computer/digi camera problem.....all of a sudden (seemingly) about half of my beautiful hi res photos have been converted to 640 by 480 res....has anyone got any idea what i did and how to undo it please??
I transfer them from card to hard drive using the card reader slot and the cut/paste option in "my computer"

and what operating system are you looking at them with.

xp and vista both have a "filmstrip" view which displays a thumbnail which is approx tthe size you say

in the explorer menu options

both "filmstrip" and "thumbnails" will show a miniature of your pikkie

in vista ... there is a sizeing slider that allows you to increase/decrease he display sixe also.

my beautiful photos are on a portable hard drive connected to the desktp or laptop via USB cable. I am looking at them with windows viewer XP or PSP 10 or psp photo XI.
Its the actial file size that has changed, not just the way i view them. When you look at the files in "my computer". the actiul file size is now tiny.

psp has a batch option which will convert/re-size
(as ordered). - which may explain how ....
but there isn't a way to fix

..... I have no idea what to suggest ... I was hoping it was just windows displaying small thumbs.... but if the file size has changed ......

if the file names look the same you could try searching to locate any duplicates (clutching at straws!!:(

once you have re-sized (down) a .jpg pikkie ... it's permanent ... you can make the pikkie bigger again .... but the detail is already lost ... so it will just emphasise the imperfections of what's left.

the only option is to create a tasteful collage.

even if you have "backed them up" to a HDD .. you only have one copy.

real backing up involves duplication ... so if one goes you have a spare ('fraid this is after the horse has bolted !!).

All you can do is regard this as a hard lesson ... and in future burn copies to CD/DVD (do it twice - just in case)
CD is a permanent read only copy ... on a HDD (as you have found out) they are read write ... and still can be modified

Evening, biddies. I've dislocated a rib or two... from coughing... Sorry 'bout the distinct lack of originality, I know it's already been done (Lottie)... They say it's a wonder how the bamboo knows when to bloom all at once, once in a century. Well I say it's equally as mystical how the biddies know how to all fall apart at the same time :( (Oh god I can feel my ribs moving every time I move just a little... not to mention coughing =:O)

oh, here it is. This thread actually is in Technology, even though Pets appears in the URL. How peculiar. A little lost thread about shrinking pictures. (Did you ever get them back, woofgang?) Well, I am taking three antibiotics the size of torpedoes twice a day and maybe it is wishful thinking but I am feeling a bit less pneumonic. I am very wishful as the last thing I want to do is spend a week in hospital with needles. I have just booked some Easyjet flights to ze Riviera for my birthday to go with the hotel tickets I won, and the hotel has kindly emailed to inquire what sort of birthday cake I would like. So maybe 2010 will be worth looking forward to. I have spent most of February (when I was on holiday) and now all of September and half of October coughing. And winter still to come - I am already wearing two pairs of socks and trying to save the slippers for when it gets really cold. I need a break.

hello all how are things? Have spent today putting things on the wall in my new craft room, well DH did the putting, he doesn't trust me with a drill lol. Pups are fine Rab has reverted to puppyhood and spent yesterday dumping cushions and throws on the blasted heath that passes for our lawn. I hope i can break him of the habit as we have a new 3 piece coming that has six!!!! scatter cushions. No sadly I never got the photos sorted however I now have a posh new compact digi rhat does everything except wash up. Goota go baste the chicken and shower off the plaster duast...better shower first i dont want a gritty dinner...neti stop reorganising those pegs, the photographers won't know whose pics are whose. jno have you tried echinacea? you can take it with the antibis and supports the immune system...cannot have you missing the Riviera, its sounds so Hercule Poirot

Still overcast and chilly, poor tourists, but winter has arrived early which suits me! Spent a lazy day yesterday eating lunch out with Mr N and then hot bath and back to bed watching all downloaded tv progs, ie Strictly, Xtactor, Benidorm, twas lovely!

As for X factor, I watched it this weekend in between trying to cook meals with a gammy leg, aching ribs and a splitting headache!! I can see so particular talent in any of the contestants and none whatsoever in Cheryl Cole, and as for Whitney well........................... (Although I loved 'The Bodyguard' - might have been more to do with the scrummy Kevin Costner though!!!)

Have booked an osteopath appointment for next Friday. She only works on Mondays and Fridays in this area. She is brilliant so I am hopeful. My cold and cough are both on the way out although Mr LL is now showing the signs of having caught the bug which I hoped he would avoid due to his problems at the moment.

Am now packing up three weeks worth of ironing to send to my ironing lady. I know it will cost me but I really can't iron standing on one leg (never could sit and iron), using my right hand to iron which hurts my ribs. My whole back now aches in places I never knew existed and I have a constant pain in the bum (as well as being a constant pain in the bum).

Haven't been able to drive for a while and can't even face sitting in a car so Mr LL did a large shop on Saturday. Think I could manage to complain about my back for a few months!!! However, I do feel rather cut off out here with no means of escape.

Off now to bag up the ironing - hooray.

Have a pain in my belly button so am worried that it's a hernia, on the other hand it may be where the buttons of my trousers press - who knows? Also left knee is so painful, feels like it's wrapped in a hot bbandage and it only hurst at the back, can't kneel down - luckily I don't have to!

Now have checked this and there are no slashes on it, let's see what happens when I submit!!
