display settings

I have changed the display resolution via my control panel to 12800x800 pixels.

have clicked apply then ok, bit sometimes the resolution changes back to the previous setting.

any advice into why this is happening or how to prevent it in future would be most welcome

There are two main settings for a monitor, the number of pixels, and the color quality (32 bit, 16 bit etc)

The higher these settings are the more power and memory it needs from your graphics card.

If you try to set it too high, and your graphics card cannot cope, then Windows sets it back to a lower setting.

On some computers you can specify how much memory you want your graphics card to use, the more memory the higher the settings.

You can sometimes increase the amount of memory by going into the BIOS.

What computer are you using, and do you know what graphics card you are using?

Possibly because that's not the correct resolution for your monitor? Which monitor is it?

thanks guys, the pc is an acer L100, with an 1916W 19" TFT 5ms Widescreen monitor, don't know how to find the specifications of the graphics card.

The correct resolution for your monitor is 1440 x 900

CRT screens were usually very flexiable when it came to resolutions and would cope with a wide range of them,

TFT screens have a "native" resolution and only work best at that resolution, so trying to change the resolution on a TFT is not a good idea.

Assuming rojash is correct (he usualy is) then I would stick with the native resolution of 1440x900.
