Moog: Coolbar doesn't show up doing it by your method, but then it wouldn't stop coolbar from sending out spyware info would it.
Has anyone out there actually succesfully removed coolbar yet, if so please let me know how you did it.
Try Spyferret from http://www.onlinepcfix.com/spyware/spyware.htm This claims to remove most Toolbars including Coolbar
I get this tool bar but I don't know how !!
So I do that for removing Thecoolbar :
Find a directory named : sysfwb
Renames (for me Thecoolbar_sysfwb)
it contains 2 other directories
first named : 4574792671 containing a dll named : iefwbar, renames it (for me Thecoolbar_iefwbar)
no change necessary for second directory named : Data
Now when I start IE, Thecoolbar is not present.
I don't know if it's true for everybody, but for me that works !!!
MOOG: SORRY but you can't deselect this bar in the view.
CABOMUSICO: SORRY but uninstaller Pro 2004 doesn't even find this program.
THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS is what Pilou67 said. RENAME the sysfwb folder. Its strange because I was denied access to DELETE the folder, yet I was able to rename it. Can anyone explain THAT?
I still want to know how this bar installed itself. I make a part time living by going to people's houses and freeing them of spyware/adware, and this one installed itself without my knowledge whatsoever. Ive never had that happen. Usually you install something and adware gets installed with it, or you accept a popup and you get nailed. This one got in without any of that occurring first. I left my machine on overnight and in the morning, there it was. THECOOLBAR. So UNcool, its DISTURBING.

IMPORTANT: Hello every one, i hade the same problem, but i found registeries in my computer by thecoolbar, to manually remove this new "ad-ware": you can rename, but it still have the registry in your regedit, so go to the start menu, click over run, and write: regedit ( to open the registry of your computer ) , than look for : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{2342 DB04-08CE-4CF6-976D-BD9EFA960EFB}, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{9056A11F-5EA6-4A67-BDE9- 8D3C7C453DAC} and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/TypeLib/{549AD 254-492D-42B5-8909-34F14348D4BC} and than delete it, after deleting this 3 regists, restart your computer, now delete the folder C:\sysfwb. Now the anoying Thecoolbar, as gone. Remember that is better to remove this way, if you use a spyware program to remove this tool bar you migth get some problems, in some cases the spyware programs are more dangerous ( it violates your privacy ) than a simple tool bar.
Just one more important thing, if you do not delete the registery values of thecoolbar, it migth be conected to any kind of server, i am not sure, but because the toolbar apeared "magically". I found this 3, but it migth exists more than 3. This kind of tool bars should be considered as ilegal because it installs without ask in privat proprierty that are our computers. The law should act srongly over this situation.
It may or may not be neccessary to rename it. After renaming it, I still wanted it off of my computer and it still wouldn't let me delete it. What I finally did was right click the folder in 'My Computer' and selected "Cut". I then opened up "Recycle Bin" and pasted it in there. Then I emptied the Recycle Bin. It is gone!
