Backlight on an LCD screen

Is there a backlight on an LCD screen and can they be fixed if the light goes out? Can still see the screen content but it's very very dull and you need to hold it up to the sun to be able to read anything. Thanks in advance!

I had exactly the same problem - the backlight failed. Content on screen was still there in the background - but the answer was . . . . .

Can be repaired but not worth it. Best to buy a new monitor!

Thanks sir.prize, what if it's a laptop? Aren't they easy enough to fix if you can get into it?

they can be fixed, however you may be able to buy a whole new screen assembly on ebay for less. and they are generally far easier to change.

If not it is fairly tricky to change the backllight but not beyond the scope of someone with a bit of general electrical knowlage and often (but not always) the ability to solder. the worst part can be getting them apart!

What is the make/model of laptop, I've done a few so may be able to help

It's a fujitsu seimens amilio, just had a look at the repair info link and have had a poke about. Just trying to find the tube, inverter was pretty easy to locate....

they are behiind the actual screen, normally one either side but maybe top and bottom.

Smaller screen occasionly only have one tube

It seems that your inverter board is causing the problem. Have a look at this tutorial and I'm sure it will help you repair your LCD screen.
