The GPRS/EDGE icons have dissappeared off the front screen of my phone how do i get them back or do i not need them to be visable?

you are either in an area that does not have GPRS (unlikely as don't think there are many places left that don't) or the operators network has gone down.... either move to an area that has got GPRS or wait for the network to come back up.
