Canon Ixus 70 Help Please !!
6 Answers
Thinking of buying the Canon Ixus 70, but is it worth buying a newer version, which I guess is the Ixus 80? Seen the Ixus 70 cheapest on Amazon, should I buy there, what is guarantee etc.? Bit wary of buying from them, are they as good as say John Lewis? Also what is the name of the memory card I would need, for lots more pics? Sorry I'm not a techie as you can tell !

Most "new" technology tends to be overpriced, purely because it is new.
New models of any camera are the same, so the 80 probably has a few pounds added on because it is new.
When there is an end-of-life model of any camera, and it is reduced, then it comes down to a more realistic price.
I doubt if there is a huge difference between the 70 and 80, but pricewise it seems to be about 50 more expensive.
And lets face it, the 70 is probably only about a year old, which is no time at all is it, not like it is an antique.
I would say the 70 will be fine.

You need an SD card. There is also a mini version of the SD card called SDHC and it will take that as well.
Here is the page on Argos that shows the SD cards (although you should look round as the price does vary a lot for memory cards)

Maybe buy the card from Amazon the same time as you buy the Camera.

vehelpfulguy .... you ARE very helpful !! Sorry to be such a plonker, but I just don't know the first thing about memory cards (or cameras come to that). Which make would you recommend for the Ixus 70? How do you know how many photos you can take with the memory card? I want to be able to take 'a lot' ... going on holiday so can't download till I get home. Sorry to pick your brains again you are just too clever.....
Re memory cards
Take it as an approximation when they tell you how many photos you can get on a memory card. I bought one and they said you should be able to get about 160 photos on it and I only got about 120. Try and buy the largest. Since then I got a good one from the car boot sale Lexar brand 512 mb for 20. This in fact only holds about 220-240 on high resolution on my 6meg pixel camera. I have since bought a cheap one from another car boot sale Aldi brand 2gb for 5. I have yet to put it in my camera to test it. He said it should hold over 1000 pics.
