Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student Edition

I need to purchase a new operating system for my Lap top as the installed free trial has expired.

I am not a student
I use the lap top for personal projects and some work projects. Am I eligible to purchase and use Microsoft Office Home & Student Edition. I seem to remember something about needing a student id to activate the product.

The previous version, 2003, was called "Student and Teacher Edition"

The current version, 2007, is called "Home and Student edition" so anyone can buy it.

Buying a single "box" (�80 approx) entitles you to install it on 3 PCs.

Actually I am a bit confused here.

You say you need to install a new operating system, but then go on to talk about Microsoft Office.

An operating system is a product like Windows.

Microsoft Office is an office suite and is installed on top of an operating system.

alternatively you could use OpenOffice, which is free

As Adam says, http://www.openoffice.org is a free alternative to Microsoft Office. It is less buggy and will open up any old Office files you have saved on the computer.
