virtual memory

my lappy says it is short on virtual memory and windows will adjust itself.is it best tio let windows do this or should i adljust it myself.if so what should i set it to?many thanks.

Leave Windows to set your virtual memory.

If you are running low on virtual memory (which is actually held on your hard disk) it is a good indication that your hard disk is getting full and there is little room left to hold this virtual memory.

In fact if you are using a lot of virtual memory it is a sign your computer does not have enough REAL memory (RAM).

A computer only uses virtual memory when real memory is full up. The more virtual memory is used the more it slows your computer down.

Get some more real memory (RAM) for your computer.

I should add that if your hard disk is getting full you need to delete some files.

If there are any files you no longer need then delete them.

If there are files you want to keep then back them up to CD or DVD and then delete them from your hard disk.

Video or movie files tend to be very large so deleting a few of them can free up a lot of space.

many thanks vhg,one more question,i notice i have a lot of updates in my hidden files like sp2 and java,is it safe to delete any of these and if so which ones.once again many thanks

What hidden files, and where are they stored ?

(I assume you mean hidden system files so just checking, but still like to know where they are)

yes vhg you are right that is what i mean,also i have just realised i have .net framework 1.1 and 2.0 do i really need both of these?.thanks for your help.
