Removing items from system tray.

How do you permanently remove items from the system tray? I use windows xp and a mate told me that items in the system tray slow down the computer. At the moment I'm exiting from them but I have to do it every time I log on which is a bit annoying.

yer mate is right .... start by uninstalling the ones you don't need

How you remove them will depend on what they are: Many programs have options to "Start with Windows", "Minimise on Close" "Minimise to System tray". Others don't, so as I said, how you achieve it will depend on exactly which items you wish to remove.

I assumed it would be a case of ticking a few boxes somewhere, is it really that big a deal? I don't want to uninstall any of the programs just get them out of the system tray. That thing you gave TROLL looks like it might be too complicated for myself.

most of the options you need to remove will be called something on the lines of the prog they belong to

ie corel updater - used for corel PSP

if you don't know what it is .... don't poke at it!

if you mess up ... start in safe mode ... take the tick out

if you are sensible ... it's relatively straight forward
