My Mum has a Nokia 2310 mobile phone. When someone sends a text it only shows the number and not the name of the person it is from.
Does anyone know which setting it is that needs to be changed in order to do this?

Thanks

Does she have these people in her contacts? It should display the name automatically if they are in there.
It will only show the name of the sender if that person is in the phone's memory or on the Sim card's memory. It won't show the name if the same name has 2 different numbers or the same number is listed under 2 different names. A very common mistake which can lead to the problem you're having is to have say "Mum" saved both as a mobile and a land line number. You will need to save like this: "Mum mobile" and "Mum home" or similar.

It's not a setting that you can turn on and off as far as I'm aware. I don't know your model but I am familiar with Nokia's in general and they're mostly the same.

Hi thanks for your answers.
Yes the people are displayed in contacts under the name, but when texts come through it only shows the number, which is a problem as people dont generally sign the text with a name.
I couldnt figure out how to change it either.
in my sisters phone names normally appear apart form one of here friends who's number shows not the name, I think thats was with a nokia, she just lives with it now!!
we also had the same problem, I phoned the network help service but they had no idea either.

Anyway, i altered the numbers in the contact list, i took out the 0 on the mobile number and started the number with +44 and now when anyone texts the name appears.

Hope this helps
You could try trapping their number when they ring and replacing the phonebook entry with that. The phone is more likely to recognise it if their is a difference.
