why can't i delete the dam files?!!

I'm just organising the music on my mp3 player, so I put the SD card into a usb reader, trying to delete songs that dont get played often, so i can put new ones on, but the little blighter isnt letting me delete the files, no matter how many times i press the delete key
whats going on here?

hehe, no fortunately the player is still alive, anyway all i did was took the card out and twiddled the lock button, which i had actually done several times before that and then it decided to work
