How can I open a an attachment with a wps file extension

We have received via email an attachment with a .wps file extension. We cannot open it. I think it is a Works document (which I do not have). Is there any way we can change the format, we have asked the sender to change the format but it keeps being sent as a wps. Any help gratefully received.
