I have bought a micro sd card and carrier for my sons mp3 player and when inserted into my laptop card reader it will not recognise it saying there is an I/O error. I know what that means but have no idea how to fix it. Any ideas? Rgds PB

try putting card in your phone and formatting it.
this will delete everything on it tho.
there may be corrupted files.
failing this you may have faulty card and may need to return it as faulty

Thanx. Lad has formatted the micro sd in his phone but it still says there is an I/O error when in the carrier on the laptop. Do I need to try and format it on the laptop?
You can try.
Im no techy.
But i had a similar problem with a memory stick and had to return it in exchange for another.
It kept saying error tho id put nothing on the card.
If its new return it before youre outwith any exchange time.

Thanx Doc, will persevere tonight and send it back tomorrow! TVM PB
why don't you format it on the computer since it's in the computer?
Question Author
Just tried, no chance, started asking me to input the card. Does not seem to want to read through the card reader or adaptor. Seems to register ok through the phone. Regrettably the phone has no USB cable otherwise I would load direct to the SD. Teenagers and their toys......
if the card is card working fine in the phone but not in the computer then logic would seem to say that it a problem with the card reader rather than the card, have you used the card reader with other cards before?
Question Author
Nope, not had cause to use the card reader as yet, I will try it with a usb card reader tomorrow, personally I reckon its either the reader not being set up properly or the micro sd carrier is knackered. micro sd itself seems fine in the phone. Thanx fr your help. Rgds PB
Is it a HC (High Capacity) SD card - and if so how old is your laptop?
