Field Vision Tests

Does anyone else have trouble with the field vision tests at their opticians? My night vision is absolutely dire - I know this and I won't drive on unfamiliar roads at night. I am short-sighted but only by -0.75 (which is low) and I had laser treatment, for corrective purposes, 8 years ago.

Have recently visited my opticians for a test and was placed in a dark room (with no windows) and asked to perform the field vision test (where you look into a dark screen and count the flashing dots). I failed this and was asked to do it again at a later date - which I did. Again, I failed it. So, I have had another phone call asking me to go back in and do it again !!!! I think it's connected in some way to the fact that it's dark and my night vision is bad. I'm beginning to get scared now. Has anyone else experienced this?

I doubt it is connected to your night vision - it measures the scope / range you can see whilst looking straight ahead.

Try not to worry until you have all the facts - it may well be as simple as an inexperienced person doing the test.

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you you should not be driving AT ALL in the dark - very familiar roads can have very unfamiliar and unexpected hazards.

The test might be picking up any problems you have at the back of your eye - the retina area. You are much better having the test and any subsequent investigations than panicking. I have real difficulty with the field test cos my mind wanders and I stop concentrating, so I miss the flashes!
