I have Skype - I use it for instant messaging, Skype to Skype phone calls, and Skype to land line calls.
I have a Skype In phone number, so people can call me from their land lines and mobiles at usual rates.
I have my mobile phone registered with Skype, so I can text from Skype for 5p per text.
I have Skype phones which connect from a transmitter connected to my router, so I can use Skype when my computers are turned off. (They will also work with land lines)
When I am away from home with my laptop, I can log into Skype and get all my messages and use it as if I were at home.
If I had a webcam, I could use it for video calls (dreadful idea).
Not once has a call failed me. People have no idea they are calling a Skype number. Very easy to block callers too.
