Recovering film that's been recorded over by accident.

Hi all!
A friend was telling me today that her sister had accidently recorded over her daughter's sports day (of her daughter winning the race!) on her camcorder.
Are there any websites or downloads that will help her retrieve the footage?
She says she thinks the camcorder is a memory card and not disc or tape.
I said I would ask on here as I am sure I have seen similar questions asked on here (I could be mistaken tho!) and I was given very helpful advice on retriving pictures on my corrupt memory card.
Many thanx!

As people have said, if it hasn't been recorded over yet, but just removed/deleted you can try recovering some stuff. Here's a link to some free data recovery programs (they become free after the first two "featured" links). Just make sure the program(s) you try support the storage the camcorder uses

However if it does use a tape it's likely to be gone forever.
