Toshiba or Acer to replace desktop?
I'm looking for a laptop to replace my desktop. I need something which is reliable for home use. I'd like a 17" screen and want to spend about 600 - 800. I don't need frills, just for day to day surfing, e-mails and games.
Choice is between Acer Aspire 7720ZG and Toshiba L350-145. Gut feeling is Toshiba but the guy at the shop recommended Acer ( value for money) and now I'm not sure. Price in pounds is about a third less, eg about 400-600, I think. Can anybody help?

If your going to take very good care of it, and it will sit on a desk for most of it's life not much to choose between them, if it's going to be used as an actually portable and lugged around from place to place go for Toshiba.

All the above are accurate and both laptops are good to use.
The only question mark is that you like to play 'Games'. Games depend a lot on the sheer power of the pc, especially if you play online.
Their are laptops capable of playing games well, but they are expensive and as yet do not equal a desktop pc for the same price.
As an example, I finished building the desktop pc I am using now for 'Gaming' and it cost me about 1100. I know of people who use gaming pc's in excess of 2000!

You're right there ...my Acer aspire is a great laptop but it has cracked around both hinges - even though I treat it very carefully and only use it in my living room - it has never been outside the house!!..is there a way to stop the cracks going any further?

Thank you all for your comments. I've no intention of getting rid of the desktop (see above - going to Mr.T) but it's sitting in the living room taking up space and I think a laptop would be a bit tidier ;-). Then I won't have to twist my neck to see the telly !
Luckily we have two internet connections so there's no problem, but his PC is even older. That's the way it goes - I get the new one!
