How do i get rid of disc read errors when you try play dvds?

It is either the PS-2's laser "eye" fault or the DVD disc is faulty. If you can play games OK then I guess the PS-2 is OK. If you can't play games nor watch a variety of DVDs then I guess the PS-2 laser "eye" is faulty. If it plays games OK but doesn't play any DVDs then I don't know.
