iPhone/iPod Touch Firmware. 2.0 update

Anyone know when this will be available. I expected to see it as the 3G went on sale, but it isn't yet (at 10am UK time).

There's no official time.

I've just upgraded to the iPhone 3G, so naturally have it and the apps are great!

For iPhone 1st gen and iPod Touch: I know most people I talk to haven't got it yet. It'll likely be out in the next few hours, in batches perhaps.

Remember, the iPhone is on sale at 8am (ish) local time. So the US is only just about to get it, and Cupertino area (Apple's location) won't get it for a while yet. Perhaps it'll only be available once iPhone 3G goes on sale in the US? (i.e., about an hour or so.)

I've downloaded the Band app and want to play with it. But I need the firmware update.

I couldn't order the iPhone because O2 site crashed and then my request was not successful. I am envious. I will wait a few weeks now before I get one.

I tried the online upgrade too and was annoyed that it would't properly respond while I was trying to use it.

From what I've heard (check macrumors.com), iPhone 2.0 firmware is or should be live for you very soon. iPod Touch owners will get it a little later (but still today hopefully).

can i just butt in with a quick question.

Does the new 3g or the latest software for the gen 1 support picture messaging yet?
or enable us to forward texts? I can never be bothered writing a joke out to send it on lol

Apple have screwed up here. Very poor to open the Apps store in iTunes before the fireware was available. There is a link on the iTouch page which does not work.

I'll just have to be patient, I'm sure it will be worth it.

It lets you batch delete emails, adds scientific calculator, and a load of other things and bug fixes. But mostly it adds the App Store. No picture messaging, or message forwarding. But you can easily email pictures, and easily forward email. It's better to just email. And you can get IM apps now, so can chat on AIM or MSN or facebook chat etc., for free.

Software is the term for programs that you run. Hardware is the physical machinery to run the software. Firmware is software that's written onto a chipset, like software but written directly to a chip, and is typically low-level (i.e., talks directly to the hardware).

Finally got it yesterday and it was worth the wait. Download some apps and bought band and the SEGA monkeyball thing which is especially suited to the tilt functionality.
