help!!!
10 Answers
before i start this is a computing question and i apologise for posting it here, but given the time of night i need a quick response! i was helping a friend edit an essay and opened the e-mail attachment in outlook without saving it elsewhere on the computer (as i normally would do). i spent ages going through and saving the changes i made (it was saving as i went) but when i finished i closed the document before again saving it somewhere where i could find the blessed thing. anyways...when i went to email it back to her i couldn't find it - have used the search thingy in the start menu and looked in the most obvious places, but it still hides from me. i now use vista (bl00dycrap!) so has anyone got a useful suggestion as to how i can retrieve it before having to do it all over again. many thanks in advance!!!

Heres how to get access to the recent documents list:
Open Windows Explorer (if you dont know how, use the shortcut keys combination Window + E)
Click on Local Disc (C:)
Select Documents and Settings
Select your user
Click on Tools on the menu bar, then select Folder Options
In the new window, select View
In this new list, look for the option show hidden files and folders and check it, then press OK
In your current folder, now youll see a new option called My Recent Documents. Double click on it, and youll see your recent documents list.

1 comment first .... stone ... posting to a random thread 'cause you are in a hurry isn't a particularly good idea.... if I wanted intelegent conversation I wouldn't post in technology !! ;-)
ok - assuming vista, outlook ... and office 2007
the file doesn't actually exist !!!! - at least as far as vista is concerned - whatever you try the o/s is written in a way that prevents you accessing certain system folders.
to get at it you need an independant file manager such as
http://www.explorerxp.com/
download and install it and then navigate to
C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\0KEA43HW\test.doc
the "0KEA43HW\test.doc" will vary so you'll need to look round.
the problem is - word will tidy up after itself so ~$st.doc (the recovery file) could well have been deleted .... in which case you need something like http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/10/avira_unera se_personal.html
(getting complicated isn't it!)
