I am just about to buy a new laptop at the moment i have a pc but the DVD drive is broken. I have loads of music on itunes that i will obviously want to keep when i switch over but as my disk drive is broken i am unable to create a back up disk for itunes. When i get my new laptop and intsall itunes can i automatically transfer my music by just adding my usual account details....i really dont want to loose it.

Hi, my husband said you will not be able to transfer the music you have on your PC over to your new laptop as the music is held on your PC and not on the I-Tunes actual account. He also said that when you get your laptop, you should de-authorise your I-Tunes account on your PC as it will probably cause you loads of problems when you open an account on your laptop.

He has actually just piped up again !!!! that there may be a way of doing it. You can buy a system to system transfer lead (PC World would help you) and link your PC to your new laptop and transfer the music that way, however he says it is quite a lengthy process but if you really don't want to lose all your music it may be worth it.

Hope that helps.

Thank you minniemoo i will have a look.x
Don't bother with the transfer lead rubbish.

Just buy a USB flash drive. It'll come in handy again and again.

4GB one from ebuyer.com or amazon.co.uk can be picked up for about a tenner.
And, as far as i remember, you can have up to 5 machines authorised to play tracks downloaded from iTunes, so no need to "de-authorise" from your older laptop.
The easiest way to do this to to buy an external hard-drive as I've already done this!

Go into 'My Music' and drag the iTunes folder onto the external hard drive (this may take a while if like me, you have alot of music on it!)

Once it's on the hard drive, download the latest version of iTunes on the laptop and get the empty library open. Drag the itunes folder into it and again, this will take a while and this will automatically sort all your music. Once this is complete, go into the 'Advanced' tab and click 'consolidate' and this will copy everything into the empty folder in the music section of the new laptop and job done!

You don't need to re-register and you can just log into the new iTunes account as normal.
