CD drive G:\ not accessible "problems"?

My CD drive is G:\

It has worked up until recently. Now when I double click the icon I get the message:-

" CD drive G:\ not accessible
incorrect function "

If I try to drag and drop files onto the CD drive icon within MY COMPUTER. I will receive the same message.

I am using Windows XP.

Have you got any ideas???

cleaned lately ?...CDs drives are notorious for playing up when dirt/dust gets into them
