Pictures in Hotmail

When my friend sends me emails the pictures come through as dark grey boxes. It is somebody who is on my safe list and it happens on whatever computer I open them in so I am thinking it must be a problem in hotmail. Anybody got any ideas?

mine does the same, just click on download to open them..never used to do this ,not sure if this is a new thing. Probably a security issue

im on a works pc at the moment and cant get access to Hotmail, from what i can remember i click on where it shows the attachments listed above the gray area..
