Not sure if I'm being a bit thick but a few years ago I bought the 1881 census from The Church of Latter-Day Saints and never got round to using it. I am now back on the trail of my family tree and loaded it on my computer but when I view a disc it only gives a list of names which you can't go into to view and see if this is the person you want. Is there something I'm doing wrong or are there any sites I can look at for free. Any help appreciated

Many thanks echokilo might take you up on your offer as I'm a bit of a novice as to where to look for what.
Any time Scooby Doo2 .... I check on here ofter so most a new thread if you need some help - and even if I don't see it quickly other regular AB genealogy viewers will help I am sure - all my questions have always been answered promptly so I am a big fan of AB ........ how are you storing your tree information?
Hello Scooby. I own the 1881 Census too and was actually using it today after a long interval. Do you have a copy of the Viewer loaded on your PC as you must have this before being able to view the entries? I can't think of any other reason you can only see a list of names.

Filibuster I do have the viewer loaded. Can you get more than the list of names then? I click on 1881 census and it tells me to insert a disc, sometimes it will open it and I just get the list but am unable to click on a name to see if its the one I want and sometimes it just keeps telling me to insert a disc! Have it on my old computer so maybe thats the problem!
I'm not sure what else you want, other than the list of names etc.

The actual images are only available on pay sites, such as Ancestry.
Our local library allows free access to all Ancestry census records if you have a library card. The staff are very helpful. Try your local library, it doesn't cost anything to use their computers and you can search as many records as you like.
