XP or Vista?

You need to do two things - you can google for the exact instructions if you like, or tell us whether you are XP or Vista:

1. Create a workgroup - both pcs must have the exact same workgroup name

2. Set printer to 'share'.

Both pcs must be turned on to access the printer remotely.

Have you searched the XP or Vista help ?

I just went into the XP help and searched for "Sharing a printer" and found quite a few examples of how to do it.

Many questions on AB could be answered by a search of the XP or Vista help. It even goes up to the internet and finds help available there which it displays.

It is worth trying sometime.
You could also buy a network-ready or wireless printer (it's unlikely yours already is) or a print server which connects your printer to the router rather than one of your computers. Both ways mean that you only need the computer you are using turned on, but involve stumping up some cash.

"Sharing" the printer is free.
