Humax PVR-8000T *HELP PLEASE*

I recently won a Humax PVR-8000T Recordable Freeview Box. The instruction manual with it was pretty basic and I muddled through, setting it up to show various channels in addition to my usual 5. However, it does not show ITV1 or ITV2 at all, and is missing many others that I am not immediately aware of. I may be wrong but I thought with a freeview box you were guaranteed ITV channels. There are also other channels I can hear the sound but see no picture and it states on the screen " The Channel is Scrambled or not available" For Example: 17 - UK TV Gold. Having read a few google posts on the PVR-8000T I realise it offers many more applications or uses and I am not using it to anything like its full advantage. Please advise me of how to proceed (in as simple terms as possible!) Many thanks in advance, Kirstralia

I have also just got a freeview box, and I needed to get a better ariel that could recieve the digital signals. Different areas recieve different channels so channels aren't guaranteed. Some of the channels that are in the guide aren't avaliable at all, i.e. E4 I think you have to pay for. Anyway, you should check your ariel, you may need a digital one.

Same, we had a rusty old ariel that gave naff analogue reception, but with freeview it's all-or-nothing. I think the strength of the broadcast also affects which channels you recieve, which would explain why you get some but not others. You could look in your Yellow Pages or local newspaper, there'll be local companies offering Freeview (basically big) ariels, but i'd compare prices as it shouldn't cost too much (athough did fit my own) Otherwise (if you're concerned about a bigger ariel on the house) you can also get signal ampliers that will sometimes boost your reception strength, these may work for Freeview/Digital reception too.

I had the same problem,and it turned out I needed a digital arial.I purchased a quite expensive one that was specially designed for installing in a loft,but it was complete rubbish.Apparently,because I live in a valley, I need a 30foot ariel on top of my house if I want to get a decent signal.I ended up giving my freeview box away and now have cable tv.

When I had my freeview box I could recieve a few of the channels, some were breaking up a bit and no matter what I did with my old uhf tv antenna in the loft I couldn't get all the channems. I went out and boght a wideband tv antenna which cost me �12. I simply left the old antenna in the loft and ran a piece of co-ax from it to the new wideband antenna (both in the loft). I now recieve all the free channels, my favourite without doubt is FTN, which I couldn't get without the wideband antenna.

There are a few channels you will not get unless you subscribe, and to do this you will need a freeview box that has a card slot. The first Ondigital boxes did have a card slot, however all the freeview boxes sold during the last 2 years or so have not got a card slot.. they are now advertising the card slot boxes on tv available at currys and dixons. (yep, same people that sold the ones without a card slot)
